The structured waves and the traditional technique were observed at the special opening show of Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort' 19, which took places at the Mumbai Opera. The models exuded power at the ramp in their sculpted and embellished outfits. The show was by Gaurav Gupta, who incorporated his signature design aesthetics but this time, he took a chikankari turn.

Veteran actress Tabu and prolific actor, producer, and director Karan Johar were the showstoppers. Strictly speaking about their outfits, Tabu's ensemble was about pastel hue and voluminous silhouette with an overlapping origami bodice. The floral appliques and the gentle cascade of shimmery accents brought alive her gown. Perfect for cocktail parties, her attire was about sharp details and dreamy touch. Her look was minimal and highlighted by a glossy red lip shade and the middle-parted sleek tresses wrapped up her showstopper look.

Karan, on the other hand, wore a flamboyant outfit. His attire was unapologetically dramatic and enhanced by characteristic red hue. His suit was about classic colour block and nuanced details. Bright red was his jacket and black was shirt and straight-fit pants. Adding to that, his perfectly tailored suit was characterised by silver embellishments. Karan paired it with black-hued formal shoes. His look was every inch glamorous and there was an element of fantasy too. So, how did you find their outfits? Let us know that in the comment section.

Britain's Prince William and his wife Kate visited a gleaming new design museum on Tuesday as well as a factory facing closure and praised Dundee residents for pulling together in difficult times.

They met staff at Dundee's Michelin factory, an economic mainstay of the Scottish port for 40 years. Workers are trying to reinvent the factory after news late last year that tyre production is to cease.

"When a community faces uncertainty, people feel more optimistic when leaders such as yourselves work together," William told a group of senior staff at the factory.

William, second in line to the throne, and his younger brother Harry have been changing the once-staid approach of the royal family to public matters with a more candid approach on issues such as mental health and the environment.

"Because of the collaborative approach adopted by the people in this room, I personally am optimistic that a good outcome is possible," William said. "You have already reached agreement on developing the site into a manufacturing, recycling and low-carbon transport hub."

A source at the royal household said the couple wanted to make the important point that those who are facing uncertainty need to be included, not just those responsible for success.

Earlier the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who met while studying at Scotland's University of St. Andrews, officially opened the Victoria & Albert Dundee, an eye-catching design museum which looks like the bow of a ship, on the mouth of the River Tay.

They drew a large crowd outside the building's angled structure despite the chill of the riverside in winter.

Kate, a patron of the V&A Museum, wore a green Alexander McQueen tartan coat dress while William wore a blue suit alongside her.

Kate said she was "captivated by the breath-taking architecture and the sheer range of design on display" at the first offshoot of the Victoria and Albert Museum outside London.

Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, currently designing Tokyo's 2020 Olympic stadium, configured the building to resemble two hulls side by side, in a nod to the port's shipbuilding history.

The museum houses treasures such as a salvaged tearoom designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and a tiara of rose-cut diamonds with a pair of wings which tremble slightly when worn.

"I hope that this museum will serve as an inspiration to others, by showing how great things can be achieved when different communities all pull together," Kate said.

The couple's words about working together echoed those of William's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, who urged divided lawmakers earlier this month to seek common ground over Britain's impending exit from the European Union.

Washington D.C. [USA], Jan 30 (ANI): A new study, published in Experimental Physiology by researchers from the University of Glasgow, has highlighted several of the positive health effects of short duration, high-intensity resistance exercise training programme in overweight men.According to the study, a six-week programme consisting of three 15 minute sessions per week dramatically improves insulin sensitivity, as well as muscle size and strength in men.The authors hope that these results can be shown to apply to individuals with Type II diabetes, of whom 90 per cent are overweight or obese.According to the study, short-duration bouts of exercise to exhaustion are just as effective in improving insulin sensitivity (how sensitive the body is to the effects of the hormone, insulin) as longer duration (45 minutes) resistance exercise sessions. Such short sessions might be more appealing and attainable in a world where time is a frequently cited barrier to physical activity.Notably, when insulin sensitivity decreases (as in Type II diabetes), blood sugars rise, which in the short-term can lead to feelings of fatigue, but over time is related to complications including heart disease and stroke.Previous research had suggested 45 minutes of resistance training with multiple sets of each exercise could increase insulin sensitivity, muscle size and muscle strength, but no studies had tested the efficacy of shorter exercise resistance exercise programmes. The research team recruited ten overweight men (as distinguished by a Body Mass Index of 25-30), who trained three times a week for six weeks. Each training session involved a single set of nine standard resistance exercises such as leg presses and bicep curls, performed at 80 per cent of their maximum single repetition lift until volitional failure (i.e. when a further repetition could not be completed).Muscle size, muscle strength and insulin sensitivity were measured before and after the training period. Comparisons of these measurements revealed that insulin sensitivity increased by 16 per cent following the exercise regimen.Stuart Gray, who led the research group, is already thinking of other ways to build on his team's work."On top of these results, we know that the gym is not for everyone. Therefore, we also need to see if we can get people doing similar exercises at home without gym equipment, to achieve similarly beneficial effects," he said. (ANI)

Thanks to the Internet and the social media, more and more people have realised the value of the phrase ‘health is wealth’. However, the irony lies in the realisation that spending too much time on your phone or laptop adversely affects your health. And to deal with this, we have invented the concept of digital detox (taking a break from technology) but, now, we can go a step further by opting for a ‘tech diet’. To understand what a ‘tech diet’ is, we got in touch with nutritionists Sujetha Shetty, Gympik and Tripti Tandon, who explain what this diet is and why it’s needed.

What is a tech diet?

  • A diet that counters the effects of technology can be defined as a tech diet. Since, six neurochemicals are affected, the diet should replenish them.

How tech affects our health

According to experts, when you are using your smartphone or your laptop, approximately six neurochemicals are released, affecting our body and mind. These six neurochemicals are:

Adrenaline: Released in the situations of fight or flight. In context of using your phone, they are affected when someone likes your post on Facebook or retweets your tweet on Twitter.

Dopamine: Dopamine can be defined as a pleasure neurochemical, whose purpose is to give us desire to seek reward, that is, instant gratification. Social media drives on manipulating your behaviour by giving you a dopamine hit, like the one you get from notifications when you are active on social media.

Serotonin: It’s released in our bodies when we are feeling creative or when we are engaged in some activity. For example, engaging in a Twitter conversation that is publicly appreciated.

Endorphins: Also known as painkillers of the body. They are released when we experience gratefulness, a sense of calm or belonging. They trigger a positive feeling in your body. For instance, the feeling you get when you get more than a thousand likes on your Instagram post!

Cortisol: Released in stressful situations. Let’s say you post something on social media and hope to get a positive response but it doesn’t happen; and then you get unnerved.

Oxytocin: Also known as cuddle or love hormone. It is released when you feel a sense of connection with someone, like striking a new friendship on social media.

Is there a thing like healthy technology?

According to experts, technology can be healthy only if using it provides us with a good dosage of brain-boosting oxytocin or endorphins. Experts state that there are apps that help us but there is a risk that you might get addicted to them. Thus, using technology moderately, practising digital detox and a tech diet, is the best thing to do.

What is a tech diet?

A diet that counters the effect of technology can be defined as a tech diet. Since six neurochemicals are affected; the diet should replenish it.

1)Serotonin regulating foods: Eggs, pineapple, salmon, spinach, nuts

2)Adreline regulating foods: Legumes, whole grains, kidney beans, oranges.

3)Dopamine regulating foods: Chocolate, blueberries, sweet potatoes, broccoli.

4)Endorphins regulating foods: Strawberries, grapes, asparagus, yoghurt.

An increasing number of Indians experience symptoms of depression or some other mental health problem. But adults aren’t the only ones who struggle with mental health issues: Children deal with them, too. Although we tend to assume that only adult men and women suffer from depression, anxiety, and other disorders, the reality is that more children are affected than we thought. Numerous studies have shown that rates of depression in Indian children and teens are on the steady rise. According to a World Health Organisation (WHO) report in 2017, about one in four children in the age group of 13-15 years in India suffer from depression, which affects 86 million people in South-East Asia region. Unfortunately, symptoms of depression, anxiety, and many other mental and behavioural issues go undetected; and only a small percentage of children and teens get necessary treatment.

Depression, anxiety, and many other mental issues that affect children are manageable, but it’s only possible with accurate diagnosis and effective treatment measures. However, mental health issues may often go undetected in children, reveals actor Deepika Padukone’s therapist, Anna Chandy. “Children must be encouraged to express their feelings as this will allow parents to address any grievances or problems that they may be going through,” Anna Chandy, chairperson of The Live Love Laugh Foundation’s Board of Trustees, says. In 2015, Deepika Padukone started The Live Love Laugh Foundation, an initiative to end the stigma against mental health and spread awareness.

Children aren’t as effective as adults in expressing how they feel. Sure, they may know what being happy or sad means, but mental health problems include a spectrum of emotions they can’t define or explain. Therefore, Anna Chandy says, “It is the responsibility of each parent to ensure that their children receive a positive, encouraging and nurturing environment, both at home and school, as this will improve their physical and mental health.”tamilrockers

What causes depression and mental health problems in children?

Mental health issues aren’t passing moods, they don’t occur due to trivial situations. In many cases, causes of depression, anxiety, and other problems is a combination of different factors, such as, physical health, life trauma, environment, and even family history and genetics play a role. According to Anna Chandy, common risk factors for mental, emotional, and behavioural disorders in children and teen include genetics, major life events, childhood trauma, etc. “Children whose parents suffer from depression are more likely to develop this condition than those whose parents have better mental health. Apart from this, children hailing from chaotic and dysfunctional families, or those who indulge in substance abuse are more prone to it. Traumatic life incidents can also trigger the symptoms,” she says. tamilrockers

What are the common signs of depression and mental health problems in children?

Remember, mental health disorders in children are manageable, but it’s crucial to spot changes in behaviour and habits first. So, how do you recognise the signs? Depression in children is more difficult to identify because the symptoms are not easily observed; It hinders normal socialisation, and negatively impacts school and family life, says Anna Chandy. “Some symptoms in children that all parents must look out for include sadness, hopelessness, and sporadic mood changes. They are also prone to irritability, anger, vocal outbursts, crying, social withdrawal, fear of rejection, low concentration, worthlessness, and feeling of guilt. The physiological symptoms include deficient or excess appetite and sleep; stomach aches and headaches that do not respond to medicinal treatment; and fatigue,” she says.

Just because mental health problems go undetected in children and teens, it doesn’t mean all signs are entirely invisible. It’s important to pay attention to the way your child behaves and notice potential changes, says Anna Chandy. “Childhood is the most important stage in an individual’s life and sculpts how we behave as adults. Having a mental illness is a highly sensitive issue and must be treated with compassion and care. It is imperative that parents take even the slightest warning signs seriously and address the issue at the earliest,” she says.

Penile Vitiligo (Vitiligo Penis) : Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis & Treatment

Want to get more information about khatrimaza? Read this article now: Penile Vitiligo (Vitiligo Penis) : Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis & Treatment

Vitiligo is a long-term skin condition that causes the skin to lose its pigment in patches. The affected area becomes white in colour and has distinctive margins, showing the difference between the individual's original complexion and the patch. It is not limited to any specific part and can affect any part of your body. It can even develop inside your mouth and nose. In most cases, it affects the part of the skin that is exposed to the sun.

khatrimaza

Penile vitiligo or vitiligo penis is caused in the male genital area. It causes the skin to lose colour and develop patches of depigmented skin. The hair around the affected area turns white as well. The condition appears on the shaft and the foreskin and not on the head or the glans of the penis. Vitiligo is not limited to any specific age and can develop during any point in your age. But in most cases, it develops before the age of 20.

Vitiligo is not contagious and does not affect the health or the functioning of the penis. The condition is considered to be autoimmune in nature.

Symptoms Of Penile Vitiligo

Appearing on the foreskin and the shaft of the penis, the major sign of the condition is patches of skin that are depigmented. Along with this, the condition has other symptoms such as

  • loss of colour in the mucous membranes (such as the around the linings of the nose and mouth),
  • change in vision (which is caused due to the loss of pigment in the inner lining of the eyeball), and
  • grey or white hair.

The symptoms and the nature of vitiligo categorise it to three subtypes, such as

  • segmental vitiligo (which only affects one side of the body),
  • generalised vitiligo (which affects every part of your body), and
  • localised vitiligo (which affects only one or two areas in your body).

However, if one experiences symptoms such as erectile dysfunction , difficulty in urinating and pain, consult a urologist immediately.

Generally, the condition is caused when the melanocytes (cells that produce skin colour) in one's body stops functioning. There is a lack of definite evidence in the medical field about the cause of penis vitiligo. However, it is believed that the condition is developed due to the following factors such as

  • stress,
  • genes,
  • exposure to specific chemicals or phenols and catechols,
  • sunburn, and
  • dysfunction of the immune system.

Apart from the aforementioned causes, scientific studies have revealed that penile vitiligo is an autoimmune condition . This condition occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacking the healthy cells in the body.

Diagnosis Of Penile Vitiligo

The autoimmune condition is identified by the medical professional through a physical examination . During the physical examination, the doctor will examine your penis and the rest of the body. This is done to examine whether the other parts of your body is also affected by vitiligo.

An ultraviolet light will be used to examine the affected areas, as it helps in confirming whether the skin pigmentation disorder is indeed caused by vitiligo. Also, depending on your symptoms, a biopsy will be conducted where the doctor may take a sample of your penis skin to be examined under the microscope. The biopsy is conducted so as to rule out the possibility of balanitis xerotica obliterans.

The doctor will ask about your family medical history so as to examine whether anyone in your family has the autoimmune condition.

The skin condition is not a curable one. That is, vitiligo does not have any treatments that can completely heal it. In most cases, the treatments can help bring the original skin tone back. As it does not affect the health in any way, people often opt out of getting treated. Due to the sensitivity in the genital area, the treatment methods can be harder to execute.

1. Light therapy

Under this treatment method, ultraviolet A, ultraviolet B or the excimer light will be used. The light therapy helps in regaining the pigment of the penis skin. The method is often amalgamated with psoralen medication, which may have an elevated response rate.

2. Medications

Ointments and topical creams can be effective in this reducing the prominence of vitiligo on the affected area. The ointments affect your body's immune response and include corticosteroid creams that are anti-inflammatory. Ointments that contain pimecrolimus or tacrolimus are also used.

These medications are to be used only according to the doctor's recommendation.

3. Surgery

In the case of light therapy and medications being ineffective, the other option is surgery . If the vitiligo has affected the foreskin, circumcision is an effective method. In other cases, skin grafting has to be done where the doctor will take small parts of skin from unaffected parts of your body and graft it to the affected area.

However, this is only applicable when the affected area is small in size. As skin grafting can be difficult to be done to a large area.

Penile vitiligo is not fatal or dangerous. The condition also does not affect your health or pose any complications in your sexual health as well. Individuals with penile vitiligo are at a higher risk of developing skin cancer, eye problems, and hearing problems .

However, psychological and social problems have been linked with individuals with vitiligo. The condition can cause individuals to undergo stress and lack of confidence as the patches in the skin may affect their social life. That is, they can face bullying and mockery from other people, therefore causing the individuals to undergo a tremendous amount of stress.
